Gore Canyon Whitewater Race makes rapid return

Sky Hi Daily News
Summit Daily

After a successful grand opening of the Gore Canyon Whitewater Park on July 13, RiverRestoration Landscape Designer, Hattie Johnson, learned that no one was planning on putting together a race on Gore Canyon, an event that has almost 25 years of history. This being the first season with the whitewater park at Pumphouse it seemed important that the tradition continue. The race in the past has been open only to the experts of Colorado whitewater. With the whitewater park bridging the gap, GoreFest now has events for everyone. Register here: GoreFest Registration

Columbus, Nebraska: Whitewater park plan takes next step, many more remain

Columbus Telegram
Columbus News Team
Last week RiverRestoration performed an inital site visit of the Tailrace Park in Columbus, NE to determine the conceptual level of feasibility of a whitewater park at the site. The site visit was followed by a public forum to inform residents on what the goals of the proposed project were and to listen to any concerns. Enhancing the safety of the tailrace to potentially create a continuous paddle trail into the Platte River as well as improving the safety and accessibility of the existing park are the main intentions of the project. The Columbus Whitewater Park is for the enjoyment of all residents and visitors.

Gore Canyon: A Paddler's Paradise

The official ribbon cutting for the Gore Canyon Whitewater Feature at Pump House took place this Monday, July 13 on site with over 100 people gathered for the celebration. Grand County has lead the project since its inception in 2010 and worked closely with Eagle and Summit counties as well as water conservationists, water advocates, water planners, water engineers, and water attorneys. Jason Carey, got in his kayak to enjoy the whitewater feature for the first time on Monday to the delight of all the on lookers. The dedication and ribbon-cutting were followed by a delicious lunch and raft trip down the Upper Colorado from Pump House to Radium. American Whitewater, a stakeholder in the Upper Colorado Wild and Scenic designation and project leader, hosted a kayak demonstration early in the day to demonstrate to all the project funders and proponents in attendance what type of recreation the project was built to support. Kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders, rafters, and fishermen all enjoyed the feature and together without conflict. Nathan Fey remarked on the project's ability to create such a great new feature with a small ecological footprint, " Of the 28 [Recreational In-Channel Diversions] in the state, it is the first on the Upper Colorado and the water rights that accompany it will support local industry and protect against the threat of a water call, shepherding the water downstream to maximize water use throughout the state."American Whitewater
