RiverRestoration is dedicated to resolving river issues. RiverRestoration provides the creative planning, engineering and technical support required in any successful river project. Our philosophy is to take a whole system approach to river projects to meet the multiple needs of ecology, recreation and water users for an overall higher functioning system. We identify degradations, uncover use issues and site constraints, and find solutions that benefit the whole system.

Creative Planning

RiverRestoration coordinates with multiple agencies and interest groups to develop planning tools and creative solutions. We take a watershed approach; from an inventory of riparian/habitat condition, identifying degradations, recognizing the different uses, and coordinating with multiple agencies; we are able to integrate the diverse and complex issues of the system to develop planning strategies that will meet Project goals.

Channel Restoration

Our channel restoration design takes a fluvial geomorphic engineering approach. We analyze development impacts, historical uses, bank stability, sediment transport/deposition, channel form, riparian functions, and open channel hydraulics. There are many rivers where anthropogenic impacts have altered the geomorphic processes and disconnected Rivers from their floodplain. Floodplain interaction and overbank flows are vital to maintaining balanced ecosystems. The approach we have developed takes a whole system approach to channel restoration that results in sustainable riparian regeneration and aquatic habitat connection. Through analyses we are able to engineer sustainable designs for restored River channel function.

Recreation Enhancement

RiverRestoration's insight and inspiration comes from personal enjoyment of Rivers. We recognize that recreation enhancement projects inspire new river stewards, who are fundamental in the protection of these systems. We design “organic” recreation enhancement projects through engineering solutions that accommodate river recreation without degrading ecology nor conflict with other uses. We integrate our technical expertise with our passion for quality river experiences.

River Diversions

RiverRestoration provides engineering services that can design environmentally sensitive diversion structures that minimize degradations, provide fish and boat passage, and provide efficient irrigation delivery. We engineer diversions that will maintain aquatic and geomorphic processes.

Floodplain Analyses

RiverRestortion performs topographic and hydrographic survey, and develops hydraulic models. We are expert at determining flood issues and working with regulatory agencies to solve floodplain issues and perform detailed analyses required for remapping flood hazard areas.

Riparian Habitat Assessment and Wetland Delineation

RiverRestoration performs wetland delineations, plant identifications,and assessment of riparian conditions. RiverRestoration prepares riparian landscape plans and soil and planting specifications.


RiverRestortion's designers coordinate directly with regulatory agencies such as, the Division of Wildlife, Army Corps of Engineers, and Environmental Representatives. There are a number of permit requirements when working in a waterway. We initate the permit process early in the design phase in order to limit the potential for project delays, obtain permits in a timely manor, as well as uncover concerns so that final designs can address those concerns. The most critical permit applications that we prepare are the US Army Corps 404, State Water Quality 401, and Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Assistance With Grants and Funding Opportunities

There is potentially widespread support and funding opportunities available for a holistic project that is sensitive to the river environment and includes river recreation enhancement and fish habitat considerations. We will work with grant administrators, natural resource managers and potential stakeholders to uncover opportunities for a mutually supported project.
